
Deduplication Storage for Disk Backup, Archiving and Disaster Recovery
Data Domain deduplication storage systems dramatically reduce the amount of disk storage needed to retain and protect enterprise data. By identifying redundant files and data as they are being stored, Data Domain systems provide a storage footprint that is 10x-30x smaller, on average, than the original data set.. The newly-announced Data Domain Boost software optimises and accelerates traditional backup software interaction with deduplication storage by distributing parts of the deduplication process to the backup server. This improves server performance (by reducing CPU-intensive network traffic) and increases aggregate backup throughput on Data Domain systems by an average of 50 percent. For example, the benchmark for the EMC Data Domain DD880 has increased to 8.8 TB/hour compared to 5.4 TB/hour at product introduction.
Included with Data Domain's OST license (and freely available to exsiting DD OST users) , DD Boost software is available immediately for use with Symantec™ NetBackup and Backup Exec. DD Boost software for EMC NetWorker will be available in the second half of 2010.
